I’m currently watching the most recent TVB series “Beauty Knows No Pain” (女人最痛). 女人最痛 in Chinese literally means ‘Women’s Most Painful”.

The show premiered on July 26, 2010, and is slated to air for 20 episodes five nights a week. Hence, my couch is going to be on fire again.

How can I miss such series with such interesting cast? This modern series drama follows the lives of three women — Jackie, Miss Cash, and Bibi, portrayed by Maggie Cheung Ho-Yee, Michelle Yim, and Joyce Tang respectively.

This drama revolves around the cosmetics industry and how women struggle to win the hearts of clients, bosses as well as life partners.

女人最痛 — Coming back to this title, what hurts women most? What is the most painful thing on earth to women? I debated with my mum on this as we watched the 2nd episode of this series.

First thing that came into my mind was labour pain. The amount of pain women have to go through after 40 weeks of pregnancy at the delivery room is simply unbearable and unmeasurable. Mum definitely agreed with me undoubtedly but that is just a form of physical pain.

Mum said the most painful thing on earth to women will be 男人变心. It means when a man changes his heart for the other. I immediately felt the sharp pierce in my heart when she said that. 男人变心 is definitely a powerful phrase as I could feel the pain as my mum explained why it is painful. It is no doubt one of the greatest pain one have to go through.

I guess I have said enough for this blog entry. It is time for the readers to deliberate what is painful and what is not.

The movie Avatar is almost on everyone’s mouth ever since it was released on the 17th December 2009. Friends and colleagues are claiming how great and wonderful the movie is.

Well, what can we say when this 166minute-long movie is the brainchild of James Cameron, the director of Titanic? All hail Sci-fi King, James Cameron! Avatar is definitely the most ambitious and visually arresting film I’ve ever watched.

Now, if you haven’t already done so, go and see one of the year’s most exhilarating films.

The sci-fi blockbuster has already surpassed Transformers 2 to be the No.1 movie for the year 2009. In the domestic US market, Avatar climbs to the #3 spot behind The Dark Knight and Titanic, the all-time #1 in both domestic and worldwide market. At the foreign box office, Avatar continued to rage, blazing past the $1 billion mark; and many people are anticipating Avatar to surpass Titanic’s worldwide gross of US $1.842 billion.

Not to forget to mention that Avatar has won 2 Golden Globe Awards for Best Picture and Best Director yesterday.

Way to go, Avatar. Oscars are waiting for you!

I have finally finished watching the 33-episode mind-blowing series. If you remembered, I once blogged about this few weeks ago at here.

I can finally let go of the TV’s remote control and surrender it to my mum who has been fighting for the TV to watch her Korean series.

You will definitely love the series if you are a fan of twists and turns, the glorious Tang dynasty and the bickering of the palace maids and concubines. It is different from 2004’s War & Beauty although many viewers compared BTROC is not as grand as WAB. BTROC has its distinctive plot, revolving around two childhood friends and how they survive in the palace filled with wickedness and evil schemes.

For those who have yet to watch, grab the DVD’s or watch it online. Here are some of the film captures from the series.

I must applaud Tavia’s acting in this series. She totally deserves to win an award for taking up this role.

With veteran actresses like Michelle Yim and Susanna Kwan, you should take this opportunity to embrace their experienced acting.

Moses Chan did a good job as the Emperor.

Not to forget Charmaine has improved her acting skills after being a log for so many years.

I better NOT show you too many scenes. You should watch this series yourself.

Enjoy!

Btw, you can join the Facebook Group for this series —-> here

English Title: Beyond the Realm of Conscience
Chinese Title: 宮心計
Genre: Costume Drama/Grand Production/Anniversary Drama
Episodes: 30
Broadcast Network: TVB
Broadcast Period: October 19, 2009 – November 29, 2009
Starring: Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Tavia Yeung (楊怡), Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), Michelle Yim (米雪), Susanna Kwan (關菊英), Moses Chan (陳豪), Selena Li (李詩韻), Susan Tse (謝雪心) and etc

The storyline revolves around the Imperial Household Bureau whereby it is responsible for managing and directing all household services to the Emperor and the Imperial family in Tang Dynasty. The Imperial Household Bureau is comprised of four departments, namely Jewels, Attire (Embroidery), Food and Furnishings. And by looking at the series’ promo poster above, you would know that there will be full of imperial politics, bickering and power-hunger.

I strongly recommend this series to you who have yet to catch it. I have kinda abandoned Born Rich now as I am more eager to follow BTROC.

Episode 14 will be released at 830pm tonight on Astro-on-Demand. I will be glued to the TV again!

Oh gosh!

To those who have not watched Talentime, I urge all of you to grab a movie ticket in GSC Mid Valley/ Gurney this week to catch its limited rescreening.

As I watched this endearing movie directed by Yasmin Ahmad, it stirred in me an emotion I cannot help but express in tears, both painful and yet freeing.

A movie filled with slices of Malaysian life and reflecting similiar afflictions that one in a multi-racial community may endure. I walked out of the cinema not just with puffy eyes, but with my heart tugged as well.

One of the boys performed this beautiful song ‘I Go’ written by Pete Teo, that carried simple and honest words in the lyrics.

I go by Pete Teo

So long, fare thee well
The dancer and the dancing days have taken leave and fell
So turn down this bed of stone
Quench me with the deadly nightshade from the rose that you belong

The long December rain is falling now
Running down on streets to nowhere
Music is my life youre my sweetest nightingale
But I cant hear it here no more
And I go
I go

Hush now, dont shake or break
Words have fallen silent like soldiers to the grave
No matter what they do or say
Lay me on the sleepy meadow by the tracks upon your face

If you have yet to catch any of the late Yasmin’s work, do not miss out on this chance to savour one of her last magnificent brainchild.

The first Malaysian movie that I ever watched repeatedly is Sepet, a Yasmin Ahmad film.

I am definitely a fan of Yasmin Ahmad’s films. Her films and commercials, in particular Petronas ads, have touched hearts of young and old locally and globally. Her films/ads are often found controversial but articulately expressed. She is undoubtedly the true spirit that lives up to the Malaysian Malaysia concept.

Unfortunately, Yasmin Ahmad suffered a stroke and died due to severe brain haemorrhage on 25 July. I was devastated and I know I was not the only one who couldn’t accept the fact she is no longer here to produce more life-touching movies. She is and was the only reason I watch Malaysian-made movies.

I am definitely missing her now. And I pray that Yasmin Ahmad finds peace eternally.

One of the reasons why Zouk was packed like sardines last Saturday.
He didn’t look that gorgeous after all the sex scandal issues last year. Hmmm….

The next day I went for Wolverine and later on, Angels and Demons on Friday night.

I love Hugh Jackman here. He is a total hunk! Gosh!

Have not read this book, and I went for the movie with the least expectation. Thus, I enjoyed every second of it.

Now what’s next?

Guess what, tomorrow I will be watching Push and the only reason I am up for it because of Dakota Fanning.

Next week I will be heading for Terminator Salvation.

OMG. There are so many upcoming movies this summer. Transformers 2, GI Joe, Harry Potter and et cetera… this is going to be a total madness for me. Someone please save me from the insanity!
