Motorist in Malaysia are well known for a few reasons; total disregard for traffic rules and being down right rude behind the wheel. The rakyat in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru are notoriously famous for tailgating, double parking, weaving in and out so on so forth.

Recently, the government started to pay attention to those in the back seat not because the majority of them are part-time “back seat drivers” but towards the safety aspect.
The government finally passed a motion and law to make buckling up mandatory for even the back seat passengers, effective June this year for the rakyat to get used to it.
There are a few questions in my mind right now.
1) How many people will actually stick to this “5 persons per car” ruling?
2) Is there room for corruption?
3) HOW DO YOU BUCKLE UP IF YOU ARE IN THE BACK SEAT ALONE??

This could be the ONLY move by govt that I love since GE12.
Seriously la, ppl always complain Msian car not safe cuz got no airbag la, ABS la, traction control la, blabla, but everytime I drive, seeing a Msian driver who’d belt up is probably rarer than spotting a Ferrari. And sometimes we wonder why we hv the best death figure by road accident in the world.

tokmoh : Oh yes Tokmoh. But it certainly will be a pain in the butt for ppl in rural areas. They have big families…how to fit 5 ppl in one car?
