1 Day Trip to Samut Songkhram

31 July 2008

The trip to Bangkok was planned in early February when Air Asia launched the RM5.00 sale and after including the airport tax plus fuel surcharges, the return ticket to Bangkok cost only RM272 per person. My ultimate dream at that moment was to enable Kev to go overseas for his very first time. And I did it. May this entire Bangkok trip be a Convocation gift for you, Kev. Congratulations for your convo in advance!

The recent trip to Bangkok would never been extraordinary if Maturot, my colleague from Thailand did not bring Kev and I to Samut Songkhram.

Map of Thailand

Thank you Maturot for taking the effort to drive us down to the place unseen by foreigners which is 70km away from the country’s capital city.

Samut Songkhram is located at the mouth of the Mae Klong river to the Gulf of Thailand, which overlooks to the South China Sea. With several canals (khlong) the water of the river is spread through the province for irrigation.

Before reaching the seaside, we passed by many lakes along the coast for producing sea salt. However, the main destination that Maturot wanted to show us was the sandbar, Don Hoi Lot.

Don Hoi Lot is at the mouth of the river and it is famous for its endemic shell population of different species.

I hardly see any foreigners visiting this place. Mostly locals unless they are being brought by locals like my case here.

From the picture above, young and old collect as many shellfish as they can.

The sand bar is 5 minutes away on boat.

I must give credits to Kevin for taking such beautiful shots even though he was using my Canon Ixus 860 IS camera.

Do take note that if the picture is snapped by Kev, I would leave a caption ‘Picture courtesy of Kev’ unless it was snapped by myself.

Ahh, I captured this shot.

If not mistaken, we have to travel at least 1-2 km away from the shore.

Now, look. What can you see?

They really seem to be walking on water.

In fact, it was a low tide moment and the shallow water level allowed us to get out from the boat.

My Bear checking out a ’siput’ which he picked up from the muddy sand

For your info, you would prefer to wear sandals to Samut Songkhram. It’s our mistake to wear sneakers as we didn’t see this coming. I have no idea that I would be soaking my feet in the sea.

In the end, Kev and I had to roll up our jeans and leave our sneakers in the boat.

There are a lot of shellfish, baby crabs and sea creatures lying on the sandbar.

Look at the “Siput”!! How beautiful they are!!!

Are they having an Orgy??

Man searching for ‘Lala’

I felt for this man. It must be a hard workfor him to search for shellfish in the middle of the sea.

Kev disturbing the shells!

This is one of my favourite shots of the day.

I have no idea what Kevin is doing to the siput or the shells. All I know is we were fascinated by the entire trip to this amazing place.

You wouldn’t be afraid to catch a mini crab with your bare hands. Because they are so much smaller in comparison to you.

Thank goodness this horseshoe crab is dead. If not, I would not be able to hold it for you to see.

From snails to shellfish to crabs to horseshoe crab, I can only guess what more lies in Don Hoi Lot.

Isn’t it wonderful to embrace the nature once in a while?

It’s not like everyday i get the chance to walk ON the Gulf of Thailand. It’s not like everyday i can feel the light sea breeze blowing through my hair.

It is definitely one of the best experiences I have ever had in Thailand.

Logo of PAS + BN

30 July 2008

For weeks, we have been hearing about meetings of UMNO and PAS. Well as most of us know that UMNO, which is also the dominant component party of Barisan Nasional (BN) is currently fishing PAS to unite together under one umbrella.

Have you ever wonder how does the logo will look like if PAS were to unite with BN.

TADA!!!!

Pas BN
It’s actually a sign of hawker stalls in Bangkok

There you are. You can see the ‘Dacing’ bearing both PAS’s green and BN’s “fairness???”

Looks like PAS & BN unholy matrimony started off in Thailand before Malaysia!

Sawadeekha Bangkok!!

27 July 2008

Finally I have some decent time to sit down and blog in Bangkok.

Map of Thailand

I touched down at Survanabumi airport on 24th July @ 11:30pm (GST +7) and I will be heading home in 2 days time. Looks like time flies faster when I am abroad. Hmm…

Visiting Bangkok is a mixture of food, shopping and culture.

What is Marriage?

24 July 2008

My dear boss is hillarious in his own ways and his jokes come out unpredictable. Look at this conversation which happened minutes ago.

Boss: What is Marriage?

Colleague: Marriage is a unison which God created since day through Adam and Eve, so that we will multiply and fill the Earth. And the family is the most important unit as a support and love for each other.

Boss: Wow, that’s lengthy and difficult to understand.

Colleague: Then what is your version of marriage?

Boss: Marriage is when the man loses his bachelor degree while the woman obtains her Master degree!!

Me & Colleague: -_-” (Laughs all the way)

WHAT IS YOUR VERSION OF MARRIAGE, my dear friends?
