How do you cope with rising costs in Malaysia?

3 June 2008

Just read this in Malaysiakini and Paul Tan’s website.

Malaysia’s Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Shahrir Samad announced that the full new subsidy system cannot be decided immediately, as only the initial details will be announced tomorrow, with the full picture to be unveiled later in August.

He also added that the fuel subsidy mechanism could involve the following methods:
a) cash income subsidies
b) quota system tied to MyKad or car registration number.

Currently petrol in our country sells for about RM1.92 a litre, among the cheapest in the region. If petrol is to be sold at full market prices, it could be as high as almost RM4 a litre – about 100 percent above current levels.

Petrol

With the rising cost of petrol coming up our sleeves in August, I am sure it will affect many business and entrepreneurs to increase their price too.

Imagine you used to pay RM3.80 for a bowl of Wanton Mee in a hawker stall now, and by August, I’m not surprised if they were to charge RM5.00 to RM6.00 by then.

OMG!!!

How are we going to cope with the high cost of living and yet our salaries are not increasing according to the inflation?

cycling

I guess we all might probably think of cycling to work. Not only we will save on petrol, we can exercise to lose weight. (Hahaha!)

But I scared we would die faster due to inhaling too much of carbon monoxide.

fast food

We might even consider of controlling the intake of fast food and start eating at home. It is definitely much cheaper to dine at home. Unless we really do not have the time to cook, then we will have to opt for hawker stalls where food is more economical than those restaurants in shopping malls.

No more Starbucks or Coffee Bean too! Say hello to Teh Ais or Teh O Ais Limau at a nearby mamak. It will be tough for many of us.

save

What else can we do?

What are the things that you will do to overcome the rising costs?

Tell me. Spill them out here. Let’s discuss.

riding a bike is definitely not feasible for mainly 2 reasons.

    (a) its too bloody far.
    (b) most likely you’ll get run over by a kancil.

Things we might be able to do to overcome the fuel hike are
    (a) finally realise the diet we’ve all wanted to do for so long
    (b) vote BN out

My mind is in the state of “Welcome, DS Anwar Ibrahim, the 6th Malaysian PM this September”. Bodowi has just shot himself in the head.

How to cope? “Change our lifestyle”, wakakakakaka

    Ok, but seriously:
    1 Migrate
    2 Become rich
    3 That’s it.

If there are people who need to “change lifestyle”, it’ll be those bee anne arsehole f***tards. I refuse to suffer hardship to fund the lifestyle of the richest unemployed man in the world. Or to send another pretty boy in pampers go space tourist. Or to bail out another PKFZ. Et cetera.

Look at LGE, Ning Baizura was shocked that he rides economy class. Can bee anne do that? Gosh, the thought of it almost robs my sanity. May Allah punish those “islam hadhari” heretics in hell. Amen.

  12. Grace Says:

Gerald : The queue was gila… seriously gila.

tokmoh : Agree with u 100%. Let’s bury the Bee Anne away.

Ashley : We have to YAK MIN BAO!!!!

  13. kevin Says:

you know the funny thing is petronas CEO suddenly come out saying that we dont know the rising cost of oil and gas exploration pulak.

  14. tokmoh Says:

Got read yesterday’s The Star? Idris Jala said being in the O&G industry previously, he thinks the price of oil per barrel now should be USD40, yes, F-O-U-R-T-Y. Empat puluh. Yon-jyu. He thinks the current USD130++ price per barrel is all thanks to speculators and hedge funds arsehole.

But I gotta take the blame myself for overestimating bodowi. So much for his “learnt his GE12 lesson, point made and point taken”. Bodowi is bapa peng-inflasi-an Malaysia!! I’d thought he’d be wise enough to raise the price gradually, say 20 or 30 sen, but a whopping 78 sen/L?

Idris Jala shud join Pakatan Rakyat and prepare to become ministry of finance this Sept. May God bless Malaysia. AAAAMEEEEN~~~!!!

  17. Grace Says:

Kevin : Petronas giving a lame excuse. And ya wor…batang naik, minyak naik lagi…..
tokmoh : Amen to you! Pak Lah is definitely Father of Inflation!!!
