Not that Super Chilli Ban Mee
7 April 2008
Last Saturday, I have decided to try out Restaurant Super Kitchen’s Chilli Ban Mee which they imitated from my ever favourite Chilli Ban Mee from Restoran Kin Kin which I blogged about it last year.

This is a newly-opened branch in Dataran Sunway (Kota Damansara), apart from the one you find opposite Restaurant Kin Kin off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.

The setting of Super Kitchen is definitely more comfortable than Kin Kin’s old and stuffy one.
Let us not compare the forks and spoons, the floor or ceiling lights and et cetera. Most importantly, we should deliberate whether the Ban Mee deserves our loyalty like how Kin Kin still attracts me every fortnight!!

Kevin and I can’t wait to try the dried Ban Mee, as it looks good when being served to us.

Gerald, on the other hand tried the Ban Mee served in Soup.

The Dried Chilli, the main taste enhancer, is added to our Ban Mee.

Looking at the redness of my Ban Mee, you would know how many spoons of dried Chilli I have taken to sprinkle all over my noodles.
The VERDICT: The texture of the Ban Mee is not as bouncy as Kin Kin’s version. I find that there is something missing in Super Kitchen’s dried Chilli. Hence, I will definitely favour the Chilli Ban Mee from Kin Kin.
In short, I will not return to Super Kitchen and I would rather drive the extra kilometres to KL to get my bowl of Ban Mee from Kin Kin.

cons :
the chilli was not as “heong” as kin kin. (heong = aromatic)
the noodle texture was not that bad, even though it could use more “bouciness”
no fried anchovies
pros :
soup came on time.
they had one miserable small meatball
they had more fried onion
NOT SO HOT THE STUPID PLACE.

Kevin: Since when u became a dictionary?
Jesca: Steven’s corner in Pandan Indah? If it is, it should be Kin kIn’s branch.
Sha: Exactly!!! *Slaps forehead!
Lizzie: You can still try. Don’t just act based on what I said. Judge for yourself. Previously kyspeaks.com said that Super Kitchen’s Pan Mee was okay. But I didn’t really believe, so I went to try it. And true enough, nothing beats the original Kin Kin!
