Is Holiday Necessary?

29 April 2008

Firstly, we should ask ourselves “Is Holiday Necessary?

When we are often tied up with strenuous jobs at the workplace, our ultimate goal is to get a break from the taxing organization. After all, we are not paid to work for our bosses 24/7. A machine or a robot cannot even work all week long. They need to take time out to cool down their systems. Same goes with human beings. As long as we deliver our work-related promises and seal up jobs appropriately, I am pretty sure our bosses would approve our holiday leaves without a doubt.

However, there are some bosses who really love to kick our asses even though we have tried our best to fulfill the tasks given. There are even bosses who hate to approve leaves even though our workload has been reduced before we apply for a few days off. Nevertheless, there are certain bosses who are as kind as Samaritans, approving every leave we apply as long as we do not create trouble for them.

Now, I have met a few people who seldom take days off to go for a holiday. They normally would only take days off to run errands or to sleep at home. They think that it is a waste of money to go for a holiday. They would rather save to spend it on latest electronic gadgets.

My mum would think I spend a lot in traveling lately. She has always been nagging me why I am not saving for the rainy days. I am saving bit by bit. It’s just that I love to take time out from stressing moments. I need to take a break once in a while.

For me, traveling helps me to relax wholly as I do not need to worry about my current workload. All I need to do is just to concentrate in having the most fun out of my trip. Going on a holiday is definitely necessary for my case. I am not sure about you.

Even students who cramped their brains with tireless project after project, tutorial after tutorial, exam after exam and makes semester breaks their best friends! Am I correct about this?

Relax

I will be going to Cherating after work tomorrow. I shall celebrate Labour’s Day there.

It’s time to take a break from working, blogging and other daily routine work.

And to my readers who are working, I hereby wishing you a Happy Labour’s Day!

Is Forgiving that Easy?

27 April 2008

Today’s sermon in church was on “Forgive and Move On

Is it that effortless to forgive someone who has hurt you deeply?

On and off, we hear about “Forgiving and Forgetting“. I am not sure about you, but I do believe that act of forgiving is definitely not easy for me. Saying “Sorry” might be as simple as ABC but forgiving is an act of compassion and humanity which takes a lot of guts to do.

I strongly believe every religion around the world teach about the power of forgiveness and acceptance. It is often associated with unconditional love when we talk about forgiveness.

The question is “Are we willing to take the first step to forgive?” when someone hurts you deeply. Perhaps, you can take a few minutes to ponder upon this question. What if he or she has betrayed me? What if he or she has cheated on me? What if he or she has repeated the same mistake over and over again? What if this? What if that? Questions are followed with endless other questions, seldom with any solid answer.

The reminiscence of few unwanted bitterness might cloud our minds and emotions will start to take control. Many a times from here, one would develop the feeling of vengeance as wrath gradually increase. Now, this situation would hinder him or her to forgive one’s mistake easily. It eventually will lead one being lost in a festering wound that never realizes the revitalization power of healing.

Some of the excuses that I often hear from people who refuse to forgive are Revenge is the best way to heal my wound“, “There are somethings which you cannot just forgive and forget“, “I was hurt so much; how could you ever expect me to forgive and forget that and many many more. Hence, we even start to blame others for their wrongs and mistakes, clouding our judgement.

It is pretty obvious that forgiving will bring forth more gain. Ask your religious gurus and they will enlighten you with the teachings of forgiveness and the spiritual process to let go of unnecessary pain. The fact is many of us are still holding back. We just could not be that generous when our hearts are broken and torn.

Forgiveness

Maybe, I should open this topic for more discussion. We could learn from each other.

What is your perception of forgiving?
How easy do you forgive?
What makes you refuse to forgive?

SPM English not far from Manglish

20 April 2008

Had a short talk with my church mate recently on the standard of English that is being taught in our national schools. She is an English teacher for almost 20 years and teaches the students of Form 4, 5 and 6.

She felt the bitter aftertaste of the declining standard of English, comparing it with the standards of the yesteryears. Not only that, I got the shock of my life when the Kerismuddin Ministry of Education (MOE) decided to insert graphic stimuli (just like PMR) into SPM English 1119 Examination Paper.

SPM English

I refused to believe the wide spread rumors until i finally tainted my vision after viewing the book with my naked eyes.

As you know, I am actually saddened by the truth of PMR English being degraded incompetently.

SPM English

Why must they insert graphic stimuli and short texts into the 1119 Examination Paper?

Haven’t they done enough to vilify the beauty of English?

SPM English

It’s amusing to see how the MOE is confused at examining the students on the subject of language or Mathematics.

SPM English

I strongly believe that this is not the standard the Pre-Uni undergraduates and college-bound teens should be subjected to.

Where is the benchmark?

SPM English

I realised the MOE has a uncalled for tendency to question students on irrelevant issues like road signs.

Are the students taking JPJ L-license exams?

SPM English

NO ENTRY again?

I thought I saw something similiar at the PMR English workbook.

SPM English

Those who cannot score an ‘A’ for today’s SPM English should be prosecuted!!!!

(Read: Not literally!! The level is too easy for you to miss an “A”)
