Dubai oh Dubai

28 March 2008

I was in Dubai for about half a day. From KLIA to Dubai International airport, it took me approximately 6 hours by Emirates Airline. As I stepped onto the Arab ground for the first time of my life, I was amazed.

Almost every building is newly constructed, and some are in the midst of construction. You see tons of cranes and tractors in the city as early as 7am (GMT+4).

We had our chance to walk around the old part of Dubai before our breakfast. The weather was just nice as it was neither too hot or too cold. Perhaps, it is similar to the weather in Camerons Tea Plantation (in between Ringlet and Tanah Rata).

dubai02

Wow, they even have started branches of OSAMA in Dubai!!!! Oh No!!

dubai04

They even have a GOLD Street here. Unlike Malaysia, the goldsmiths do not need any security guards or metal shutters to guard their shops.

The law will protect them inevitably.

The punishment of theft or robbery is as severe as murder in this Arab nation. This is no wonder, they can parade tons of gold at the display window.

Dubai is in the midst of changing its skyline. Look at the amount of towering buildings they have now.

dubai05

The 2nd building from the right, the Burj Dubai became the world’s tallest structure and is expected to be taller by several hundred feet, once construction is complete. Including the antennae and spire the total height of the Burj Dubai will be an estimated 818 meters.

Gila ni!

dubai07

Look at the Dubai skyline from afar. The picture is not really clear as I was in the bus. However you could see how modern-looking Dubai is right now.

A big thank you to the income from oil!

In near future, I would agree that Dubai skyline will definitely beat the ones in Kuala Lumpur as well as Hong Kong.

The ever famous 7-star hotel known as Burj al-Arab Hotel, which is also the world’s tallest hotel is just right behind me. Located near to a beautiful coastline, covered with white sandy beach and crystal clear water.

Who wouldn’t want to stay in this hotel?

But, are you willing to pay at least USD 1,500 for a 1-night stay in the basic room of this luxurious hotel?

I doubt!

chi sin….the development in the country is so rapid and resource intensive.

the gold street kalau malaysia ade, every day kena rompak. why? POLIS KATA JANGAN……..

its hard to compare cities that way my girl. dubai just started flourishing a few years ago due to super oil prices. HK and Msia started most of their construction in the nineties. btw, high rise buildings in KL is not really popular due to limestone formation below and the cost of foundation works is crazy.

RM 5000 for a night? if money grows from my punggung yes.

anyway…….talking about that super duper how many stars hotel..??
forget it man……i couldn’t be bothered…i’d rather reach a state where they’d gladly invite me to stay in there..:P

    am i dreaming or what??oh no……i shud be sleeping..not dreaming yet….hehehe

Dubai is worth visiting, but i dont think that it will be cheap to have a holiday there… I rather go back 2 Aussie…

And high-rise buildings in KL is kind expensive (*like Kevin said*) and our high rise buildings are usually normal buildings with really tall antenna’s (*read: the Twin towers*)

gerald : you keep on dreaming la. bring you to dubai wo. sendiri keluar duit la you. babi.

its just a matter of time before dubai comes crashing back to earth. the day when the petroleum gas reserves deplete in a few decades from now, the day when hybrids and solar energy really kicks off, countries fully dependant on petroleum will be crippled beyond reason.

sha : the best place to visit are countries whose currencies are much smaller than RM; being able to spend freely is somewhat satisfying.
lol. you should see the natgeo documentary on KLCC.

  5. s2k Says:

Kevin: Actually Gerald has a point, coz even tho Dubai is dependent on petroleum to sustain its economy, that was a couple years ago. Now Dubai is becoming a financial center in the middle east, and its even trading oil that is not coming from Dubai itself…

But if they dont manage what they have and develop sound financial systems, then GG lo..

Kevin: Money wont grow on ur punggung, unless u sell ur punggung, then money will automatically slit thru ur ass.

But again, Dubai is rich because UAE has lotsa resources from oil, and they are building WORLD TRADE CENTRE in the centre heart of Dubai now!!!

Gerald: They invite u? Hahahha… unless you super VVVVIP lah!!!! Memang dreaming lah You!!!

Sha: Dubai is super rich of resources. Even at night, the streets and highway are BRIGHTLY litted as I saw it from the plane!!!

  7. geraldho Says:

Kevin & Grace: Not illegal to dream ok??DOH!!

Btw…Kevin has a point..but then again…like Sha said….they are also one of the fastest growing financial institutions there….and besides that..what about tourism…??? i believe they are not as stupid…hahaha……no doubt…petroleum will run out soon….but hey….at least they are not wasting them to send some idiots to space…:P

  8. Grace Says:

Well said Gerald… At least they are not sending some idiots to space and spending hundreds of millions in a Monsoon cup…. hahahahaha….

Btw, who say you cannot dream? You can continue to dream until the cows come home…heeeheeee.

  9. geraldho Says:

BABI U>…….if only the guards at our condo will allow the cows to come in…:P

  10. kevin Says:

sha : i still dont like dubai.

grace : good let them have some crazy ass american go nuke the WTC there.

gerald : bloody. who you calling cow now!

  11. Grace Says:

Gerald: Siapa kata tak boleh? Itu mainan lembu boleh masuk lah!!!!

    Kevin: Panggil u kut…hahahahahaha

  12. tokmoh Says:

Lololol, Kevin, korek korek korek!! POLIS KATA JANGAN……

Should watch how they build “The World” islands, marvelous engineering feat!! But of course, the environ-mental-ists would protest cuz water level become unstable la, marine life threathened la, but you know what? Instead, The World islands helped to spur alga, batu karang etc, ahahahah. 1-0 to development over those noob environ-mental-ists!!

I heard that now Dubai is only 45% dependant on oil. I can believe that, they now focus on tourism and real estate with their The World Island, The Palm island, etc more islands, and of course, their Burj Al-Arab will always remain an iconic must-visit location……for the rich.

  13. kevin Says:

omg. yea i saw the marina they building there. damn gila babi….like a shape of a palm tree ma.
