Fight or Flee
23 November 2007
I recently read this from Malaysiakini — ‘Chinese being the top list of renouncing the citizenship of Malaysia‘.
Certainly these Chinese Malaysians are expecting a better quality of life overseas in comparison with staying back and bearing the nation’s impotency caused by a certain group of nationals.
Read on more from the most recent column on “Not every Malaysian Can Fly” from Malaysiakini. You will better understand why Chinese Malaysians choose to ‘walk out‘ of the country.
For an example, the sweeping statement from the Jerai MP (Source) saying that
“This is a Muslim country, Leave Malaysia, if you don’t like”,
will indeed cause emotional distress for some Malaysians.

Malaysia is supposed to portray an image of a multi-cultural society, where one has liberty of religion. The constitution states that Malaysia is a secular state, where one has the freedom of worship.
Given that, all Malaysians should work together to achieve a better nation.
But, what did we achieve so far as a 50-year old democracy nation?
It ranges from the usual brain drain, bumi privileges racial segregation, non-meritocracy education system, ever widening economic disparity, epidemic-like corruption, incompetent red-taped government sectors; and the list may goes on and on and on.

With these reasons above-mentioned, many are giving up the Malaysian passport today.
They choose to migrate to countries such as the USA, UK, Australia and other nations worldwide that offer them equal opportunities in abundance.
Who wouldn’t want a better working and living environment? Who wouldn’t want a bigger paycheck? Who wouldn’t want world-class education? Who wouldn’t want equality? Who wouldn’t want to be heard?

Did you know that the Malaysian IC is highly demanded? People pay to obtain it.
A friend used to tell me that a Malaysian IC can be sold for at least RM10,000. Of course, the immigrants from neighboring countries such as Indonesia, Thailand and etc would love to get hold of our citizenship just as how many of us would love to jump ship if given the chance.
Yes, many illegal immigrants are flocking into our country, running away from their home soil.
Yet, many Malaysians are renouncing their citizenship, choosing to leave her behind.

Yes, a lot are leaving on the jetplane, unsure of the what life has in store for us.
For those who hope for a better Malaysia to come, one can choose to be an idealist and help make a difference till one’s final breath.
For those who cannot bear the touch of tainted Malaysian soil on your feet, just pack your bags and leave for its pointless to hold grudges on the “Tanah tumpah darahmu“.
Leave or Stay?
In the end, the choice is in your hands…

Leave. Im not so patriotic to fight. and I strongly believe the grass is greener on the other side. and since i have the opportunity right in front of me, why not =P

hehhee…i guess i chose to stay…not as patriotic as anyone says…but i guess..life goes on….just hope that Jesus will come back sooner loh..haha..Justice will be made then…trust me…in other countries…inequalities exists too….
and in our country…perhaps…the price to pay to get what we want…it’s HIGH! it’s not just about money…it’s about setting aside our own interests..but for the interests of the true Malaysians……at the moment..at least i’ve not seen one leader who puts the interests of Malaysians ahead of his/her own interests…unless..and unless there are those who would truly stand up for the rights of Malaysians….and certain groups of nationalities are willing to give up that rights….nothing can ever happen….of course..unless violence be used..but then again…blood may be shed…and again…isn’t blood part of that price that a lot of warring countries are paying…are we then willing to pay that price to see such things happening in our country…that again….is a decision that we make.
*NOTE: I am not in anyway supporting / encouraging violence to put things right. Just that sometimes, we just need to take into consideration on what it takes to see changes.
Just my penny worth…please don’t kill me..:)

Kev: What to do? The grass is forever greener on the other side.
Loong: Yes, you can always fight your way into Australia… just get a PR first. =) Earn enough points… at least 130 if not mistaken.
Linda: Hmm, seems like no one can change your perception anymore. Your Australian degree will definitely allow you to stay and get a PR…. =)
Gerald: How to stand up for the rights when freedom of media/ speech is strictly controlled by the ruling govt? How to echo the voices to be heard by them when they only know how to suppress us? How to fight? I wonder….
